Event Summary:

Cross-border healthcare enables countries to achieve significant cost savings on healthcare expenditure by allowing people to travel abroad to get medical treatment at affordable prices. Medical tourism is a growing multibillion dollar industry and is expected to reach 100 USD billion in 2012. A Joint EU-US collaboration on e-Health will act as a global force re-shaping healthcare systems around the World by turning more efficient and safer treatments into a reality for patients travelling to other countries to get medical care. Cross-border healthcare enables innovation to make personalised healthcare come true. A transparent healthcare system provides hospitals and research partners in a healthcare cluster with capabilities to boost in-bound medical tourism. Medical tourism is all about regional medicine and cross-border healtcare.

Investments in Health IT infrastructure is a top priority to capitalise on the promises of cross-border healthcare and patient mobility. Open innovation platforms is the first step for hospitals and research partners in a healthcare cluster to provide state-of-art health care that boost in-bound medical tourism. To bring new drugs to the market much faster, biopharmaceutical companies need to cooperate with top-tier hospitals to bridge the gap to patients. Interoperability between Health IT systems in different countries is required to exchange massive amount of health-related data between doctors, researchers and patients in order to optimise patient safety. By providing regional and local offering to individual and corporate healthcare buyers, hospitals and clinics in a healthcare cluster will be able to deliver high-end-treatment and benefit from standardised reimbursement procedures across borders. Strategic alliances between hospitals, health agents and research partners in the Life Science industry will help a healthcare cluster to brand itself as a leading destination in the global medical tourism industry. By capturering a prime position in the medical tourism space, countries will be able to stimulate economic growth, attract foreign currency and create employment opportunities through attractive healthcare clusters in a global business environment, the medical tourism industry.

Our cross-sector speaker panel with the pioneers from the medical tourism industry will provide your organisation with a roadmap to build healthcare clusters in cooperation with research partners in the Life Science industry to maximise patient flow that helps your region to position itself as a frontrunner in the Era of medical tourism.
